Primary cortical neurons dissociated from rat brains were pretreated with (or without) nobiletin (NOB) for 1 hour and then incubated with rotenone (ROT, 0.5 μM) or antimycin A (AA, 0.5 μM) for 24 hours. Neuronal viability was measured using an MTT assay. Nobiletin pretreatment effectively restored the neuronal viability under CI inhibition (ROT+, NOB+) but not CIII inhibition (AA+, NOB+). Data indicate the mean±S.E. *p<0.05 and **p<0.01, compared with non-treated group; ††p<0.01, compared with rotenone alone.
