The negative immunoregulatory mechanism of TAM receptors proceeds through downstream signaling cascades involving SOCS1 and SOCS3 E3 ubiquitin ligases. These, in turn, inhibit inflammatory responses mediated by regulatory TLR signaling. TAM receptors can also decrease expression of IL-1β and IL-6 via negative regulation of microglial and astrocytic activation.
