The networks classify the images following the direction of information flow in the connectome as shown by the types of neurons which were color-coded as in the legend. Note that the types of neurons are displayed for visualization but are not utilized in the computation. All the nodes perform identical operations: ReLU activation, 2D convolution followed by batch normalization. The final classification is conducted using a fully-connected layer at the end.
